Sneaky Cards With Value

3 Sneaky Cards With Value, Part 1: Kerby Joseph, Richard Sherman and Maxx Crosby Rookies

October 23, 2026 · AllSet24

Sneaky Cards With Value is a series where I share cards that look like nothing special but turn out to have a story, or some value. Each part covers three of them. You can find every part on the Sneaky Cards With Value page.

Here are three sneaky cards that don't look valuable but actually have some value. All three are rookies of defensive players who didn't get many cards, which is exactly why they're easy to miss. My name is Chris, and I'm a low end card seller with over 37,000 transactions on eBay and 100% positive feedback. You can watch the video above or read the breakdown below.

Which base rookie cards have sneaky value? The short answer

  • 2022 Panini Select Kerby Joseph rookie. Looks like a normal base rookie, and the base goes for around $10.
  • 2012 Panini Contenders Richard Sherman. His first card and technically his rookie. Usually $10 to $15.
  • 2019 Panini Chronicles Maxx Crosby. One of only two rookie cards he has, and the bigger payday of the three.

A quick note on prices: the values below are what these cards were going for when I filmed the video, based on eBay sold comps. Prices move, so always check recent sold listings before you buy or sell.

Why is the 2022 Select Kerby Joseph rookie card worth money?

This one looks like nothing. It looks just like a normal base rookie. But as far as I know, Kerby Joseph's rookie card is in 2022 Select, so they do some pretty good numbers. The base goes for around $10.

Because it is Select, it also has all those different parallels and numbered versions. When I filmed this, a Red Disco Prizm /49 had sold for $67.50. Kerby Joseph isn't necessarily the biggest name in the hobby, and he's a defensive player, so you can find his base stuff every now and again in dime boxes, 50 cent boxes and dollar boxes, and even a numbered card. Definitely be on the lookout for 2022 Kerby Joseph.

Is the 2012 Contenders Richard Sherman his rookie card?

The next one is pretty similar: 2012 Contenders Richard Sherman. Everyone knows who he is now, but when he first came out of the draft he was a late round pick, a fifth rounder, and a defensive player. The hobby wasn't as big in 2011 and 2012, so he didn't have any rookie cards. His first card, and technically his rookie, is 2012 Contenders.

It looks just like a base card, and it usually goes for $10 to $15. Graded copies go for more. When I filmed this, a PSA 8 had sold for $33 and a PSA 10 for $140.

What are Maxx Crosby's rookie cards?

Similar story with Maxx Crosby. He only has two rookie cards, both in 2019 Panini Chronicles: the Crown Royale and the Luminance. If you find one of these, it's definitely a bigger treasure hunt find, and you get a little bit more of a payday. When I filmed this, a Luminance Silver Prizm had sold for $199 and Crown Royales were going for $70 to $130.

Why I keep an eye out for sneaky cards

Knowledge is king when you're digging through value boxes, dime boxes and collections. Most of what you pull is going to be commons, but cards like these look just like the rest of the stack. If you know what to look for, you can pull them out instead of passing them by. If you're just getting into digging, here's how I'd start flipping sports cards from value boxes at card shows.
